How will you make sure you get everything you want from your practice this year?
It takes momentum … and momentum grows naturally when you have the right support structure — a community around you that will help you stay on track and keep moving forward (even when the going gets tough). From the desk of Pam McAllister
I’m seeing too many capable, values-driven practitioners struggle to build the practice they really want. A practice that makes a difference in the world, reflects the best of who you are, and lets you thrive personally and financially.
Why does this happen?
Why, with all your training and methodologies, even significant academic or experiential education, can it be so hard to turn your capabilities and passion into a thriving, rewarding practice?
Here are some of the most common reasons I see …
Your focus is scattered.
Smart people have diverse interests, abundant intellectual curiosity, lots of ideas. The world is full of so many things you can learn and do, so many interesting projects to pursue.
That’s great — life is amazing!
But when it comes to building your practice, it can be challenging to focus long enough to get traction and see the results and rewards that you deserve.
I’ve seen this time and time again with my private coaching clients. (And with myself!)
You’re not sure exactly what to do to create the practice you want.
I see this a lot. People try to figure out “marketing” and “business development” on their own and wind up getting stuck in endless study, analysis, and indecision. They spin their wheels and chase one bright shiny object after another … for months on end … or even years.
You can waste a whole lot of precious time that way. (Your only irreplaceable resource!)
Isolation is wearing you down.
It’s common these days to work alone, with no circle of peers and mentors in which to have expansive conversations about developing your practice. (By the way, be very careful who you trust to be in this circle — avoid at all costs those who accept the conventional wisdom about what’s possible for you.)
Even without that degree of isolation, you may lack an outside perspective that provides new insights and strategies, reinforces your courage, and strengthens your sense of your potential. And that leads to undervaluing your work.
So you undercharge and under-earn (even if you’re at a relatively high level). Over time, that costs you dearly — and my hunch is you’re not even aware that it’s happening.
What’s the answer?
Well, one answer is to work one-on-one with a coach or consultant who specializes in business development for people like you. And if it’s right for you, that’s a great approach that can build momentum quickly and get you significant results.
After all, there’s nothing like the focused attention and accountability that you get when you’re working intensively with an outside expert … having someone who’s at your side every step of the way, offering seasoned guidance and steady encouragement.
But getting top-notch 1:1 support takes a substantial investment — and not everyone feels ready to take that leap. Besides, some folks really benefit from the dynamic energy of a group. (We know something special always happens when like minds come together.)
That’s why I’m excited to be offering The GSCA’s “Momentum Masterminds” program.
It’s a way for you to have the support you need in a small group where you’ll also get plenty of personal attention. It’s the best of both worlds.
And it’s an elegant design. Here’s how it works …
You’ll start with a private session with me to create a picture of what success will look like for you over the next six months. A bit of an action plan, maybe a goal or two, whatever it is that you want to accomplish during the coming months in your business.
Then you’ll join your mastermind group of three to five practitioners — personally selected by me to create a dynamic mix of experience and perspective.
You’ll meet with your group via conference call twice each month.
Each call will be 60-90 minutes, depending on the size of the group. Long enough for each person to have meaningful time in the spotlight. Short enough to fit easily into your calendar.
You can use your spotlight time to celebrate your progress, get advice on questions, adjust your strategy and plans, and draw support and encouragement from the group.
Between calls, you’ll have access to a private online workspace, reserved exclusively for your group (and me, of course). Share a win, raise a quick question, track your progress, stay connected — however you want to use the space to advance what you’re up to.
Sounds simple, right? But please don’t underestimate what this can do for you.
Just imagine what will happen for you and your practice …
- You’ll have sustained commitment and structure for your business development efforts, so you stay on track. (Without structure it’s all too easy to lose focus and energy.)
- You’ll get fresh perspectives on what you’re doing to build your business — from me and from your group. (It’s all too easy to get stuck in our own heads and stop seeing what’s right in front of us, right?)
- You’ll have a close-knit community of trusted colleagues — a safe space for candid conversations about developing your practice.
- You’ll have support from a circle of like-minded folks who know what you’re up to and what you’ve promised yourself. (And who will give you a dose of loving “accountability,” if that’s what you’re looking for.)
- You’ll have constant encouragement and growing energy — crucial for all of us entrepreneurial types. (What you’re doing is not always easy! Let’s at least make it easier.)
- You’ll stay inspired.
- You’ll keep moving forward.
- You’ll create real MOMENTUM.
That simple. That powerful.
Please note: This is NOT generic “business coaching” that you can get anywhere.
This program is exclusively available to — and specifically designed for — organization development practitioners and those in closely related fields (such as leadership and executive coaches, trainers, facilitators).
You’re “my people.” I respect and admire the work you do. You’re creating the kind of world I want to see. And I want to see you well-rewarded for your contributions, in every possible way.
What’s more, I understand the special challenges you face in building your practice, as well as the unusual opportunities you have. I design everything to fit you, your values, your approach to people. (It’s really hazardous to adopt business development methods that aren’t right for what you’re up to.)
At the same time, I wish I could say this program is for everyone in The GSCA community, but in truth it’s not the right fit for everyone.
In fact, it’s for the relative few who are ready to focus their attention on developing both the significance of their work and the rewards they get from it.
And it’s only for those who are willing to support others in doing the same. By its very nature, this is a collaborative enterprise and everyone is expected to commit to the success of the others in the group — if only by “showing up” for them.
For the people who will qualify, by the very nature of how you think, it will become obvious … very soon … whether or not you’ll be joining us.
I also want to be clear that this is NOT for those whose only aim is to be a “million dollar” consultant or “7-figure” coach.
Now, there’s nothing wrong (and a lot that’s right!) with having ambitious financial goals. Money is an important part of the picture and I’m committed to seeing you generously rewarded in all ways, including the financial. (That’s only fair, in light of the contribution you make to the world.)
But to be the right fit for this opportunity, you have to be about something more than just the money. So this could be a fit for you if you put a priority on staying true to humanistic and democratic values.
If you want to make a real difference in your corner of the world.
If you put your heart into your work. (Just as I do.)
If that’s you, this just might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.
Here’s what you’ll get as a “Momentum Mastermind” member.
For six months, you’ll have a support structure specifically designed to accelerate your momentum.
- One-on-one kickoff call — just you and me, looking at what’s possible for you and where to focus your energy right now.
- Two group calls per month, led and facilitated by me personally. It’s amazing how much can get accomplished on these calls to move you forward!
- Private online workspace exclusively for your group, so you can keep in touch between calls, celebrate successes, share questions and insights, and maintain your momentum.
Your investment for six months in the “Momentum Masterminds” program is $2900. (Payment plans are available.)
For most practitioners, an investment at this level is quickly returned in the form of new clients (well, just one new client should do it), increased fees, or simply peace of mind.
Not to mention the time you’ll save. I’ve spent decades of my professional life and tens of thousands of dollars learning about marketing and business development — and putting that knowledge to work for myself and my clients. Do you want to spent that long figuring this out on your own? Or would you rather speed up the process by having me at your side?
Think about this way: How much money are you losing every week … every month … every year … by not having this kind of support? Those opportunity costs add up fast. (Spinning your wheels is expensive!)
Here’s what to do next
To make sure this is a great fit for you — and to allow me to put together compatible groups — there is a brief application and a conversation with me before you actually enroll.
The conversation is an exploration of what is in your best interest to do at this point in your business. Together we’ll answer the question: Is this program your “next”? (In other words, it’s not a “sales call.” No pressure, ever!)
If this program is not a good fit for you, you can trust me to tell you that. After all, it’s my responsibility to make sure every group is composed only of people who will truly benefit. (That’s only fair to everyone involved.)
There is currently a waiting list for this program. Click here to express your interest in being included in a future group.
That’s all it takes to raise your hand. There’s no obligation and no risk in finding out more. So let u know if your interest, while this is in front of you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Couldn’t I just do this for free with some friends?
OK, I always chuckle when asked this by someone whose profession it is to design and facilitate group processes. (Are you really valuing what you do?)
Of course you could do something that resembles this by gathering together some friends.
But you know better than anyone how valuable it can be to have someone holding the space for the group, so that all can participate fully.
I have a hunch you also know that people pay more serious attention when they’ve made a financial investment in a program.
What’s more, I bring to the table perspectives, experience, and knowledge about marketing and business development that you’re simply not going to find in a group of fellow OD practitioners. (Isn’t that why you’re reading this page?)
The choice is yours, but I want to offer you the best possible support — and the added momentum that comes from making an investment in yourself.
Is this only for beginners or will it benefit those with established practices?
This program is designed for practitioners at all levels of experience.
Beginners will get off on the right foot, benefit from experienced mentorship, and accelerate their entry into the field.
More experienced? You’ll get fresh perspectives so you can refine what you’re doing and continuously improve your practice. (After all, everyone goes stale without new inputs, advanced ideas, and an occasional dose of “beginner’s mind.”)
Do I have to attend all the calls?
Because the groups are small and the group dynamic is important, I ask that you make the calls a priority commitment on your calendar and stay for the entire duration of each call. That respects everyone in the group, right?
Of course, we’re all human and sometimes things happen that will keep you away from a call. But let’s start with the intention and commitment to be on the calls regularly.
Also, to preserve the integrity of the group a six-month commitment is required and all members of a group will start the program at the same time.
